Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search box is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. Hill County Criminal History does not retain or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, servers can receive routine technical and usage details about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help combine traffic data, show which pages draw visits, and reveal where sessions end. Browser controls can block cookies, though doing so may change how some functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Route a search request to the selected outside provider
- Operate, secure, and improve the website
- Diagnose errors and performance problems
- Measure which resources visitors use
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Hill County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to the Hill County Sheriff's Office, the local courts, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a third-party criminal record. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their own privacy terms, retention choices, and sharing rules govern information entered there. Those practices are outside this website's control, so review the provider's policy before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Hill County offices, Texas agencies, court portals, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal data.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across sites and select ads. Their collection does not occur under this policy.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be disclosed only to limited categories of recipients:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used for information within the website's control. No internet system can guarantee perfect protection, so a breach or unauthorized access cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such information is identified, a deletion request may be made.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary with the law that applies to a visitor. Texas public access to official county information is governed by the Texas Public Information Act, while dissemination of criminal-history information is limited by Government Code Chapter 411. Those laws govern official records and do not turn this private website into their custodian. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal requirements change. A new version takes effect when it is posted here, together with its revised date.
